Rescue is owned and operated by brother and sister team Paul and Jeralyn Mason. The store first opened its Allston location in late 2008 and quickly became a destination spot in the neighborhood for everyone from savvy fashionistas to college students looking for ways to stretch their cash. After receiving write-ups in the Boston Globe, the Boston Herald, the Weekly Dig, Daily Candy and a number of local blogs, the store built up a strong cult following and Paul and Jeralyn realized it was time to move Rescue to a more central location so they could better serve their customers. So, on May 1st, the store re-opened at 244 Newbury Street -- right in the heart of Boston's main shopping district. Rescue's aim is to bring high-quality, in-demand, gently-used items to its customers at prices well below the original retail cost. By offering buy/sell/trade, we allow customers to sell their items to us for cash immediately or to trade their items for store credit, thus allowing them to literally trade their old items for new ones on the spot. This method makes even more sense these days when most of our customers can't afford to let things go to waste, whether it's their clothing or their hard-earned income. Every item in the store is hand-picked by Paul and Jeralyn to make sure it is in the best condition and in line with current trends before it goes out on the floor. In addition to stocking latest trends, Rescue often features artwork by local artists gracing the walls and hip (new and old) music roaring out of the stereo. |
A few months after opening Rescue, the siblings started an event called Rescue Nite at their favorite local bar, The Model (7 N Beacon St, Allston), which continues to go down ever other Sunday night. They and some friends play a selection of post-punk, new wave and indie music with a focus on throwing in as many Morrissey and Smiths songs as the crowd can handle. Rescue Nite was voted "Best Sunday Night" by readers in the Weekly Dig's 2009 Dig This! Awards. Looking forward to the future, Rescue hopes to become even more ingrained in the local fashion, music, art and nightlife scenes; from sponsoring events and hosting parties to showcasing local artists and designers. Feel free to get in touch if you're interested in collaborating. |
