Rescue is owned and operated by brother and sister team Paul and Jeralyn Mason.  The store first opened its doors in late 2008, but the idea had been germinating for some time before that.  The two first began to talk of opening something together after Jeralyn had been working at a buy/sell/trade store in Brooklyn, NY for some years. Paul, who was living in Allston, MA, visited his sister often and constantly lamented the fact that there wasn't something similar a little closer to home.  Eventually the siblings decided to combine the DIY ethics of their favorite music with the creative aesthetic of their favorite fashion designers and boutiques to create Rescue. 

Even though many of the prices at Rescue are simiiar to thrift stores, here you don't have to sacrifice quality for that low cost.  Each item is hand-picked by Paul and Jeralyn to make sure it is in the best condition and in line with current trends before it goes out on the floor.  The store, which features a streamlined design, often has local artwork gracing the walls and a constant stream of hip (new and old) music roaring out of the stereo.

Another thing Paul and Jeralyn wanted to bring to Allston was the type of nights they most enjoyed going to in New York.  So, a few months after opening the store, they started Rescue Nite at their favorite local bar, The Model.  Every other Sunday they and some friends play a selection of post-punk, new wave and indie music with a focus on throwing in as many Morrissey and Smiths songs as the crowd can handle.  What started off as a small gathering of friends has since turned into one of Allston's most popular nights, with the crowd getting bigger all the time.

Looking forward to the future, Rescue hopes to become even more ingrained in the local fashion, music, art and nightlife scenes; from sponsoring events and hosting parties to showcasing local artist and designers.  Feel free to get in touch if you're interested in collaborating.
